Cornish Weather

Many visitors to the mine especially from the south east ask us is it always wet in Cornwall? The answer is no, not always! However I would say that this part of Cornwall is a lot wetter than further down west, being sited in a steep river valley between the sea and Bodmin Moor doesn’t help.

The weather patterns in the 1800’s differed form those today, drier summers and colder winters.

The mine was kept dry by a 45 inch engine which must have been worked pretty hard to maintain the mine workable at depth. If there was an adit on the mine it is long buried up no trace remains today.
