I use both a Geiger counter and a scintilometer readings vary a good specimen is around 5kCPS.
around 300 micro sieverts. The background on the granite can also be high several hundred CPS
Then of course there is Radon gas produced by the decay. Not sure any checks are made on mine sites.
And then they build a school over the dumps!
There are some very hot spots especially under the carpark.
Have you measured emissions from your samples?
Do the authorities ever check the old dumps & area
around Wheal Trenwith or other St. Ives sites?
