A new acquisition to my collection and old time Calcite. It was from a Northern Carolina collection. Looking at the condition of the specimen it has no dinks leading me to the conclusion it was collected underground when the mine was active.

To expand my collection I am always interested in buying new specimens from Cornwall and Devon whole collections or just single specimens.

There are very few photographs of the mine and none I can discover while she was active. This photo shows the huge tip in front of the Counthouse this was removed when and for what I have no idea. The amount of vegetation is interesting nature soon recovers if give the chance.

A very dry summer in 1859 caused the halt to stamping due to lack of water.
This year during the drought there was a reasonable flow of water down the river.
It could be the gunpowder works higher up was responsible for the lack of flow.
