Water Engine

There are two engine houses on our property both serve what is known as ‘old engine shaft’.

We have plenty of information on the 1840’s building.

However, the older house has been difficult to date – there have been various theories put forward.  It was obvious it was a very old structure as no mortar was used, the killas blocks were laid on mud and clay.  We have recently discovered two references to articles appearing in the Sherborne Mercury – as follows:-

Sherborne Mercury 27.8.1792
Sherborne Mercury 3.9.1792

To view same contact Capt. Raby on the mine.

 Sherborne Mercury 8.4.1793

a Public Survey will be held for SALE of a WATER ENGINE with the
materials thereunto belonging, a quantity of DEALS and BAULKS, and sundry other articles belonging
to said mine.

Apply to Mr John Angiers at Herod’s Foot.

Never seen a mention of these two gentlemen before, plenty more research needed, yet again.
